Wayanad literally means “the land of paddy fields”. It is situated in an elevated picturesque mountainous plateau in Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 metres above mean sea level. Comprising an area of 2126 sq. kilometres, Wayanad has a powerful history. Historians are of the view that organised human life existed in these parts, at least ten centuries before Christ. Countless evidences about New Stone Age civilization can be seen on the hills of Wayanad. The Edakkal Caves with pictures painted on their walls and pictorial writings, speak of the bygone era and civilization.
Climate: Wayanad has pleasant weather throughout the year (December and January are the coolest – averaging about 15 degree C) though March-April is warmer (till 28 degree C)
