Annapurna Base camp trek
Annapurna base camp trek is one of the most famous treks in the world. Mount Annapurna is the 10th highest mountain in the world and trekking to the base of this white giant has become a popular destination. Annapurna is at an elevation of 8091m from the sea level and this trek brings you close to the base of 7000 and 8000 meters peaks in a short period of time. So this trek is one of the exciting treks not just of Nepal but of the whole world.
The trek to Annapurna starts from a beautiful city Pokhara, often called as the City of Lakes. This city is the perfect place to start and end your quest since its nature and beautiful scenery tend to bring you positive vibes when you start and its beautiful lakes bring an end to your tiredness when you end your trek.
During the trek you will go through the magnificent rhododendron forests, beautiful small villages, waterfalls, and of course eye-captivating scenes of snow-capped mountains before reaching the base camp of Annapurna.
You will also see thirteen peaks above 8000m in this journey. Majestic views of Machhapuchhre, Himchuli, and Annapurna makes this trip worth your time and money. When you trek higher into the green, terraced hills, you will pass through ancient, mossy Rhododendron forests. There are Buddhist gumbas where colorful chortens and prayer flags are placed sending out prayers to God. The Gurung and Magar inhabitants have traditions and culture influenced by Tibetan rituals. Infact they look more Tibetan than Nepali. The Annapurna is truly the heart of the Nepal Himalayas.
There are a lot of options for the exploration of Annapurna region. Many people do the circuit Nayapul-Ghorepani-Ghandruk-Nayapul and this circuit is rewarding in itself. You can also take your children since this is easy and simple.
On your way back, you can return via Jhinu Danda. There are some hot-springs and those will be wonderful as your body would long for rest. If you can stretch your time, you can visit one of the Gurung villages of Ghandruk or Landruk.
You don’t need worry about food and accommodation since the lodges on the way are well equipped with extensive menus ranging from the typical Nepali Dal-Bhat(rice with lentils) to pizza and other items. You can also enjoy hot showers. If you are planning your trek in the winter you need to be sure about the availabity of the lodges. with a travel agency to confirm which lodges are open.
The Annapurna trekking region is easily accessible with different trailheads starting just an hour or two away from Pokhara.
Between Himalayan Hotel and Machapucchre Base Camp there is a risk of avalanches so make sure you have the latest information on trail conditions before setting off or hire a knowledgeable guide.
