Alto Vineyards is the first winery in southern Illinois, established in the spring of 1981 with the first plantings of French hybrid and American grapes. We prune around 6,000 grape vines, harvest over 40 tons of grapes and make approximately 30,000 gallons of wine each year.
Although our history is only just beginning, with the first release of our estate-grown and produced wines in the winter of 1988, our wines have already been recognized with hundreds of medals in National and International competitions. But more important to us here at Alto Vineyards is the pride we feel in people's experience of, and satisfaction with, our wines.
Our wines are handcrafted from grapes that we grow in our vineyards and other select vineyards in southern Illinois. All vineyard and winery operations are truly a family affair, from planting, pruning, and harvesting, through crushing, pressing, and bottling. The Renzaglia family philosophy is to produce the best possible wines in the old world tradition, beginning in the vineyard and finishing at your table. The value of growing and nurturing our own vineyard, as well as the winemaking process, contributes inestimably to the quality of wine we produce.
